BETHANYRESTAURANTS.COM REVIEW
Blue Coast, located on Rt 1 just North of downtown Bethany, is one of the Haley restaurants which generally all have very good food, mostly but not exclusively seafood. This is a very popular place in the summer and they do not take reservations, so the wait during the peak dinner hours can be up to an hour. They do have indoor and outdoor area to have drinks while waiting for a table. They will also not seat you if only part of your party is present.

We were advised to go early for dinner as it gets very crowded. We arrived at 6 PM and were seated quickly but the tables filled very soon therafter and there were many people waiting outside by the time we left around 7:15. We had the chilled Lobster Dip as an appetizer with a glass of wine. The Riesling was $9/glass! The cheapest glass of wine is $7. The lobster dip was disappointing and seemed to have no flavor. My husband said the ones he buys at the grocery store are better and I agreed. I had the Lobster Penne which I thought was very good. Husband had the Seafood Stew and was disappointed saying the broth was not very tasty which was evident when he did not dip his bread in it to savor all the broth which he does when he really likes it. The service was good, but the hostess dressed very weirdly. She had on a nice sun dress but Ugh-type boots -- very strange for the shore and really not appropriate for a hostess.
The place is too loud and EXTREMELY overpriced. Blue Coast is trying too hard to be something they're not: Trendy. The food is average. Stay away from the calamari. The marinara is out of a jar. Too many good places in the area to waste your time and money here. Keep looking.
This is the loudest restaurant I have ever been in. Almost to the point where I wanted to walk out. Luckily, the mussels were delicious. But I'll stick with Northeast Seafood Kitchen which is closer to me and I can actually have a conversation there.
We have been going to this restaurant ever since it opened as Red Fin many years ago. While the food is always good, it is very expensive - we never get out of there for less than $180-200 for 4 of us, even with only one person having a single glass of wine! Our last visit, last month, made us decide that one visit a year is going to have to suffice unless we go to the Sunday Supper in the off-season.
1- the new raw bar is VERY overpriced.
2- portions from the main menu seemed skimpy. Pretty presentation does not make up for lack of size.
3- then there was the NOISE factor - it was horrible. And we got there when the doors opened at 5. This is not something one should have to be subjected to at these prices. Maybe they need to hire someone to work on the acoustics.
We had dinner here in January of 2010, on the recommendation of the B&B host. We were not disappointed:the meals were nicely prepared, and the service was attentive (although spotty). It's a lovely location, and looks like it would be a wonderful place for a summer dinner, with the water view out the back window and the sunset later in the evening.
Friends & family spend summer time in the area, and we will be sure to tell them of this place.
